Kidsfest Lantern Making

What an awesome day we had today! And now we are really looking forward to the Kidsfest Lantern Parade next Saturday evening. We were so lucky to be one of only 6 Christchurch School groups selected to make the lanterns and it would be wonderful to have as many Year 4 students as possible attend the parade.
A notice will come tomorrow with details regarding times, meeting points etc.

Susie, Hannah and Laurence were the fabulous art educators from the Art Gallery and City Council Events team who came to help all the Yr 4's make their own lantern. It was a little harder than it looked but we persevered and were really pleased with our finished lanterns. They are all hanging in the hall to dry and next week Laurence will pick them all up and take them to store until the Kidsfest parade on Saturday. They will assist with lighting the lanterns on the night.
Mums, Dads' brothers and sisters can bring along torches or make their own lantern to join in the parade. Instructions to make your own lantern can be found on youtube if you search for kidsfest lantern parade.
Isabel and Maddy had a wee bit of trouble cutting the willow!
Isabella starts making the base of her lantern
Jasmyn applies the masking tape to hold her lantern together
Logan goes to Laurence to get his candle put in and a hanger attached to the top of the lantern.
Max covers the tissue paper with a PVA and water mixture.
Time to apply the tissue paper - harder than is looks but Sophie did a fine job!
Busy, busy, busy!
Looks great Nate!
Ollie looks pleased with his finished lantern
Brigit is working hard to be finished in time
Cody was really careful with his application of tissue paper and ended up with a fantastic looking lantern.
