Our Talent Show

Just for a bit of fun and as part of our Kidsfest reading programme we decided to have our own little Starfest Talent Show. Here is a clip of some of the kids showing off their amazing range of talents ........ dancing, instrument playing, origami and magic tricks.

Lantern Parade

The opening of the 20th Kidsfest was an awesome event and it was great to see lots of our St Albans kids there with the lanterns they had made. Thanks so much to Isabella's Dad who carried the great big St Albans Lantern all the way round the park!

Our BIG DAY IN

Yesterday we had an awesome day of FUN to celebrate all the great learning we have done this term and to celebrate the fact that we all have survived what has been a pretty trying 6 months! We enjoyed party games, cookie decorating and bingo. Check out the photos of us turning into 'mummies', trying to get a peg from our knees into a jar and doing the limbo. We enjoyed a yummy fish and chip lunch too.

Kidsfest Lantern Making

What an awesome day we had today! And now we are really looking forward to the Kidsfest Lantern Parade next Saturday evening. We were so lucky to be one of only 6 Christchurch School groups selected to make the lanterns and it would be wonderful to have as many Year 4 students as possible attend the parade.
A notice will come tomorrow with details regarding times, meeting points etc.

Susie, Hannah and Laurence were the fabulous art educators from the Art Gallery and City Council Events team who came to help all the Yr 4's make their own lantern. It was a little harder than it looked but we persevered and were really pleased with our finished lanterns. They are all hanging in the hall to dry and next week Laurence will pick them all up and take them to store until the Kidsfest parade on Saturday. They will assist with lighting the lanterns on the night.
Mums, Dads' brothers and sisters can bring along torches or make their own lantern to join in the parade. Instructions to make your own lantern can be found on youtube if you search for kidsfest lantern parade.
Isabel and Maddy had a wee bit of trouble cutting the willow!
Isabella starts making the base of her lantern
Jasmyn applies the masking tape to hold her lantern together
Logan goes to Laurence to get his candle put in and a hanger attached to the top of the lantern.
Max covers the tissue paper with a PVA and water mixture.
Time to apply the tissue paper - harder than is looks but Sophie did a fine job!
Busy, busy, busy!
Looks great Nate!
Ollie looks pleased with his finished lantern
Brigit is working hard to be finished in time
Cody was really careful with his application of tissue paper and ended up with a fantastic looking lantern.

The REAL ART Roadshow

The Real Art Roadshow visited our school yesterday. We were so excited when we saw the HUGE truck arrive last week and it was hard waiting till Monday to get inside it.
The truck was filled with Contemporary NZ art and we all found a favourite piece of art. There was a real mixture of paintings, photographs, sculpture and drawings.
Paul the educator in the truck told us lots of interesting things about the art and how some of them were made. He told us 'that art can be anything!' and we should all be as creative as we liked. There are no limits when it comes to being an artist.
It was great that some of us were able to buy a sketchbook and pencil and we are now busy in our spare time drawing all sorts of things.
Brigit and her Rm 20 friends thought this piece of art made from felt was really cool
I liked this piece of art because I found a beak that I had never seen - Cody
This piece of art had us all 'wondering??' How was it made? What did it represent? Did it have special meaning to the artist? What was it made from?
I liked this art because there were lots of different animal parts in it so if you didn't know many animals you could learn from it - Max
I like this piece of art because I like guns! - Jake
Paul was great talking to us about the pieces of art. We learnt a lot from him.
This was a really cool piece of art with all the colours - Maddy
This piece of art made us laugh because of the banana man farting!
I love this piece of art just because I love mountain pictures - Sophie
It had a really cool texture and nice colours - Maddy
I like the mixed colours in it - Lavender
I like the shadows in this painting - Maneo
I thought this was a clever piece of art because they used curtains to look like the Southern Lights - Isabella
It showed us a different way of doing art - Maddy
I liked this because it looked like a real photo but it wasn't. The artist tricked us - Ollie

The Gruffalo's Child

Madeleine had a challenge issued to her this term - to write her own reader's theatre.
Maddy has worked really hard to rewrite the Gruffalo's Child in to a short play suitable for a group of Rm 22 children to perform. She choose the children who would play each part and then directed the practises over a number of weeks until all the cast knew their lines off by heart. The students organised their costumes and we were extremely grateful to Jade's mum, Kim, who came on performance day and spent nearly 2 hours painting their faces. Thanks Kim!
Well Done Maddy - we enjoyed watching your play and the children acting in it did really well.
Maddy and her cast from The Gruffalo's Child
Jasmyn as 'Snake'
Jade as 'Owl' and Isabel the 'Gruffalo's Child' during the performance
Ollie as 'The Gruffalo' warns his child not to go into the dark woods
Brigit was the Narrator of the play
Kim did and incredible job painting the faces for each character
Star of the Show - Isabel as 'The Gruffalo's Child'
Isabella as the 'Red Squirrel'
Lavender as 'Mouse'
Jake as 'Fox'
