Hi Room 22 Kids

Hello everyone
How are you all doing? I hope you are getting some good sleeps and feeling a bit happier. I have been thinking of you heaps and can't wait to get back to some form of 'normality' We enjoyed being away from the aftershocks in Nelson. We saw several other families from school there too. Here is Kayla feeding the goats at Natureland in Nelson. Soon after this photo this cheeky goat stole the paper bag from her hand and ate that too!
Today the girls and I went to Willowbank with Miss Begg. It is free to all Christchurch families this week so maybe Mum or Dad could take you out there. We had fun feeding the eels.
The eels felt so slimy. They have amazing eyes and seemed very friendly to us......
Except when this one came right out of the water trying to get the meat from us and we all got a bit of a fright!
This ENORMOUS rabbit looked like a soft toy pillow. We thought he would make a great pet.
Check out this very UGLY kunikuni pig we met at Willowbank!
Yesterday Miss Archbold came to see us and the girls had fun with her on the tramp. It is nice to see my girls smiling again and I hope you are finding things to do that make you smile too.

Did you see Mrs Simmons and Isabel and Maddy on TV3 news last night? They are going to school in Arrowtown for awhile. I wonder if any of you have moved away and are spending time at other schools?
You can email me if you would like to and let me know how you are and what you and your families are up to emma.lythgoe@stalbans.school.nz

Maybe you could do some research for our NZ topic. Try to find out some interesting things about our native birds or research a city or town that you don't know much about. You could keep a diary or 'journal' entries and include some pictures to go with these. Keep on learning those times tables and check out our school website for some other learning activities.

Sparky had to go in the cattery while we were in Nelson - he sure is glad to be home and back on his favourite couch!

Bye for now kids, remember to email me if you want to chat - I will write back - promise :-)

Thinking of you

Hello all my awesome Room 22 kids,

Wow you were so brave on Tuesday! That was one very scary time! I am so proud of you all for staying close to me and trying to be patient while we waited for your Mums and Dads.
I hope that you and your families are now safe and hopefully none of you have too much damage to your houses.
I have been thinking of you all so much. My girls and I are fine, though still a little shaken. We went to Nelson for a few days to get away from the awful aftershocks.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon and then we can get back to the fun and learning that was taking place in Room 22

Take care, big hugs and high up 'Hi-5's' to you all
Love Miss Lythgoe

Class Goals

Last week we spent some time talking about how we need to treat each other, showing respect and behaviours that will help us all have a fabulous year in Room 22. While we all work towards achieving our school wide values we decided to have our own 'key values' that we will aim to work towards every day. In groups of 2-3 we made some HUGE reminders of these values to display in our room.

A treat from Corban

As part of his 'Personality Bag' bag talk this morning, Corban brought along his pogo stick. Corban was very proud and keen to demonstrate his developing jumping skills! It sure looks like fun and we were all asking for a turn. Thanks for sharing Corban - you're a star! Check it out......

Welcome to Room 22 ROSA

This morning we welcomed Rosa to our class. She comes from Korea and is studying to be a teacher at Gongju National University of Education. This is her first year of study. Rosa will be with us for one week but is studying at CPIT for one month. She is staying with a NZ family while she is here.
This morning we had a powhiri to welcome her and 3 other Korean students. Hopefully while Rosa is here she will teach us about Korea. Please say Hi to her if you are visiting the classroom this week.

Meet Bobby

Nate did his 'Personality Bag' talk this morning and one of the things he wanted to teach us about was his family's dog Bobby. He has had Bobby for 5 years and his Mum usually feeds and walks the dog. Nate also told us about his family's trip to Disneyland.
We have loved hearing all about each other through our 'Personality Bags' We have found out so many interesting things and know so much more about the hobbies and interests we each have. We have also seen some cute baby photos!

Another pet visits Room 22

On Friday Sophie's kitten Freddie came to visit us. He was very eager to get out of his box when he arrived and we had to keep a tight circle to stop him exploring the rest of our classroom. He was very cute. Thanks Sophie for telling all about your new pet. We hope he stops scratching you soon.

Summer Poems

Last week we wrote some 'Definition Poetry' on Summer. We did a brainstorm as a class of all the things we did over the summer holidays and what Summer means to us. Check out some video clips of a few Room 22 children presenting their thoughts on 'What is Summer?'

A visit from Shadow and Cinnamon

Yesterday Jake bought his family's two pet guinea pigs in to meet us. They were a little shy but we all got to give them a gentle pat and Jake told us all about looking after them.

Meet Room 22

We have an amazing bunch of kids in Room 22 this year. We already working well together and making new friends. Here we are enjoying a bit of time in the 'Big A' yesterday......

A Butterfly emerges.....

Today our first Monarch butterfly emerged from its chrysalis. It was a very exciting time that distracted us from our work for quite some time!
The kids and I were fascinated watching the butterfly slowly unfold it's wings and eventually become strong enough to take outside to fly free.......
We are looking forward to our other 4 butterflies appearing over the next week or so.

We have been patiently waiting for our caterpillars to change to the next stage of the life cycle but sadly they keep doing it over night when we aren't here! This morning we watched this Youtube clip and were amazed! Lots of us wanted to view it again so here it is for all to see.........

Check out our NEW CLASSROOM
Last week we made up this short clip to introduce our new classroom to our family and friends who can't make it in to visit us. We hope you enjoy it.
