Here are some of the exciting things we have been doing while Miss Whiteside has been teaching us.
We have been learning about
Volcanoes, in particular the three types and New Zealand volcanoes. The three main types are Shield Cone, Cinder Cone and Stratovolcano (also known as a composite volcano). We have been learning about the different characteristics of each type.
The other day we worked in pairs to make the three types of volcanoes, we did this in the school sandpit. After we created the volcanoes, Miss Whiteside chose three of the best. We made these three erupt by using baking soda, red food colouring and vinegar.
Here are the photos...
Here is Isabella holding the funnel while Miss Whiteside spoons baking soda into the bottle. Isabella and Neo made a Stratovolcano which is the tallest type of volcano.
Look what happened once we added baking soda, red food colouring and vinegar.
WOW! This one is very red.
Here are photos of the Turtles reading group performing a play to the class. The play is called "Fear Of Numbers" by Philippa Werry. The scene for the play is a group of children sitting at/on their desks. This play is about a teacher that comes to relieve the class and has a huge fear of numbers.
In Drama we have been learning to step into a variety of roles.
Check out these photos.
Can you guess what we are? If you said puppets you are correct.
In this photo half of the class went out of the room while the rest decided on a role. They guessed correctly - we were being Grannies.
In this photo we are being Ninjas.
